Experts and officials met on Monday, September 7 at Xiamen in Fujian Province, to discuss the construction of an economic zone on the west bank of the Taiwan Strait, at a forum topic dedicated to the Expo 2010. The economic zone is centered on Fujian and facing Taiwan across the Straits, and would include a series of coastal cities such as Shantou and Meizhou of Guangdong Province, and Fuzhou, and Ganzhou in Jiangxi Province . Indeed, cities like Fuzhou, capital of Fujian Province, where a dizzying number of new residential buildings are under construction, reflects the rapid development of China. This landscape of cranes and alluring real estate billboards is typical of dozens of booming cities across the country, where growth and rising living standards are fueling the demand for electricity for example.
